Gig Review: Kasabian - Leeds Arena

If you wondered where all the Kaiser Chief fans go when the band are not touring then look no further than a Kasabian gig - both groups appear to attract the same audience.

Kasabian are now able to fill arenas as was witnessed at their sold out gig at Leeds Arena. The band was initially influenced by the Madchester groups such as The Stone Roses with Kasabian now being one of the UK's top rock acts.

A huge digital clock counts down the bands arrival on stage. With the new album being entitled 48.13 due to the length of the album it seems fittingly.

Lead singer Tom Meighan looks smart in a sports jacket, shirt and tie but it is guitarist Sergio Pizzorno who looks the part of rock star. "Hello Leeds" shouts Meighan "It's good to be back" he informs the crowd.

The band has the tracks that work well in an arena setting, Underdog and Switchblade Smiles worked well. A string quartet that join them on stage flesh out and add to the depth of their songs.

Encoring with a cover of the Fatboy Slim song, Praise You was unexpected though the biggest cheer of the night went to Lost Souls Forever. The band seem to have filled the space vacated by Oasis it just remains to be seen now if they will cross over beyond their rowdy fan base.
