James - Girl At The End Of The World

James return with their 14th album, Girl At The End of the World. With James you know that the band will keep pushing the boundaries and they continue to evolve on this eclectic album: it does take a few listens though to get into the album proper.

Produced by Max Dingel who has produced groups like Muse and The Killers, he has given the album a dark sheen on certain tracks. The album opens with the track Bitch with its bass driven riff recalling New Order. To My Surprise already sounds like a James classic although I would have preferred the chorus to be more prominent in the mix. The track is one of the most memorable on the album and sees the band in fine form.

Nothing But Love will sound superb when played in arenas when the band play Leeds Arena on 14 May. The track is typical James.

There is even a nod to glam rock on the track, Alvin, which is dedicated to the late Mr Stardust. If you are after the traditional feel good vibe songs you associate with James then Surfer's Song and Catapult will be the ones for you.

A fine return.
