Interview: Kristina Maria

Canadian songstress Kristina Maria is the latest signing to Lupo One
Entertainment Inc., which was founded by Vito Luprano who acts as
executive producer to Celine Dion.

A pedigree vocalist with a pedigree team destined for huge success, Kristina has already enjoyed Juno Awards nomination on her home turf.

Armed with the poptastic 'You Don't Have The Right To Cry', Kristina kicks off her campaign for UK domination on November 17.

When did you first realise you wanted to make music?

I know that it's cliché, but I feel like I always knew music was my
destiny. I remember belting out ballads from Celine and Whitney at the
age of four and imagining I was performing in front of thousands of
people.

If you could go back to that day, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

I would say: Never doubt yourself and ignore the negativity. There
will always be people who don't want to see you succeed. You just do
you booboo!

What is your writing process?

There is no way of describing a typical writing process because it
changes with every song. Sometimes you come into the studio with
lyrics already written, a melody done, an idea or a cool beat. Then
the music making begins.

Where do you look for inspiration?

My musical inspiration comes from how I feel at that moment in my life
when I write a song. I co-write most of my songs and want people to be
able to relate to them because I truly believe music can be one of the
best forms of therapy.

If you had to cite your biggest three influences, what would they be?

Growing up, my biggest musical influences were Whitney Houston, Céline
Dion, Christina Aguilera... basically the powerhouse vocal artists. I
would be so drawn to their vocals and try so hard to imitate them.

What are your three favourite records of the moment?

My three favourite records of the moment are:

Black Widow by Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora

Don't leave by Seven Lions and Ellie Goulding

And You Don't Have The Right To Cry by Kristina Maria (DUH!)

What song do you wish you had written?

"By Your Side" by Sade I am so in love with that song.

If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?

I would collaborate with Rita Ora! She has an incredible voice and she
seems like such a fun gal'!

Touring is a big part of a musicians life, what are your tour must haves?

My tour must haves include my pink fuzzy blanket and tea. Two of the
most comforting things in the world for when I get home sick!

What makes a good live show?

I love the energy I get from a hyped up crowd. It brings my
performance to a next level when I feel like my fans are all up on
stage with me! Also having my dancers and band to feed off of each
others adrenaline.

What has been your favourite performance to date?

My favourite performance to date was two years ago with a bunch of
other artists in Agadir, Morocco for the "Tolerance" show. I performed
in front of 300,000 people by the beach. What an exhilarating feeling!
