Interview: Giulia

Italian songstress Giulia has not hidden her ambition. Having entitled her début single 'Radio Junky', the charming lyricist is set to send the radio waves into overdrive.

While we try get the catchy little ditty out of our heads, we urge you to take a listen, sing along and
see what inspired Giulia's journey.

When did you first realise you wanted to make music?

I always knew I had this passion, this fire in me, I knew I had a voice, but I realised that I wanted to do this around the age of 17-18 because this was who I was.

If you could go back to that day, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Always be yourself don't try to copy anybody that is what makes you a true artist, your own persona and mind, there's always something to learn and be patient nothing happens over night.

What is your writing process?

I personally think that there are no actual routines in the process of making art, it depends on the day, sometimes you write a song in an hour and sometimes it can take weeks, its the easiest and the hardest thing at the same time.

I usually write the lyrics before and then the music, but again there is no sure thing!

Where do you look for inspiration?

I just have it in me, it's who I am or what I do or what I've been through that inspires me.

Sometimes its just hard to find it in yourself you just need to dig deeper.

If your music were a person, what would their personality be? Where do you think it would live?

It would be a strong passionate romantic type of person, it would live in a different period of time, I'm still not sure which exactly, but definitely not this one. I'm very modern but at the same time I'm
an old fashion type of person.

If you had to cite your biggest three influences, what would they be?

Just three words; Rock, country, soul. And every artist that comes with these.

What are your three favourite records of the moment?

I really like John Newman, he is such a talented artist, his record is amazing.

Lorde's record its a very interesting one, she's something!

And also Disclosure, they are amazing!

What song do you wish you had written?

'Purple Rain' by Prince its one of my favourite songs of all time.

If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?

At the moment it would be very interesting to work with John Newman or Nickelback.

Touring is a big part of a musicians life, what are your tour must haves?

A bit of home.

What makes a good live show?

Good energy, good vibes!

What has been your favourite performance to date?

There have been so many, there is nothing I love more than being on a stage performing, so each performance for me has a special little place. Although the one I am particularly excited about which is coming up is my performance on the Anastacia tour... I have just been confirmed as support, so I am really looking forward to rocking it at the London Shepherd's Bush date alongside the queen of pop royalty herself... Miss Anastacia!
