Interview: Emma King

Hull's Emma King is about to release her debut album. With a vocal that is rich in emotion and a sound that is contemporary vintage, she is destined for greatness. Curious about her influences, we asked her what song always makes her...

Smile- 'Hound Dog' by Elvis Presley this song makes everyone smile, move and sing!

Contemplate - 'Easy Silence' by the awesome Dixie Chicks, to me this song is about having that space and freedom to contemplate and find balance.

Cry - 'Hurt' (Johnny Cash version) the timing of this release plus the powerful lyrics combined with his distinctive voice ... unbelievably powerful.

Laugh - I'm a huge fan of Grease 2 and there's a song that always makes me laugh called 'Reproduction' I always wanted my science lessons to be as fun!

Want to work out - 'Proud Mary' by Tina Turner. Luckily this song has a slooooow build, I think it's a sensible choice no one wants to pull a muscle.

Reminisce - 'Waiting For Too Long' written by Ezio. I have great memories of this special song and seeing this band live in Brighton, it always takes me back.

Relax - 'Amie' or 'Cold Water' by Damien Rice taken from the album 'O' it's a very peaceful relaxing record, it's my go to album for relaxation.

Feel Determined- 'Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves' by Eurythmics (ft. Aretha Franklin) such an empowering song and it really makes you work twice as hard!

Dance - 'Lady Of The Sea' by Seth Lakeman you'll find me in the kitchen attempting to River dance.
