Gig Review: Paloma Faith - Manchester Apollo

Having recently recovered from a bout of illness Paloma Faith played this re-scheduled gig in Manchester. You would not know that she had been ill as she seemed to have got back her energy again although what you see now is a slimmed down version of her former self although this is not due to her recent illness.

If you were a casual fan who had come to hear her hits you might have been disappointed as the show consisted of tracks from her last album which has been repackaged with some newer tracks and these are the ones she concentrated on tonight. If you knew her newer material then you would not have been disappointed and most of tonight's audience left with smiles on their faces.

A heckler shouts out for her to perform her hit New York to which she informs him that he will have to wait for her Greatest Hits tour next March (it visits Leeds Arena on Saturday 21 March).

Looking slim in a dress designed by Mancunian Matthew Williamson she started off the gig by dancing onstage with her 3 barefooted dancers who were dressed in blue as she sang Take Me off her last album, The Perfect Contradiction. The stage set all in white looked impressive.

"I'm happy to be ending the tour up north" she informs the fans "people up here know how to enjoy themselves not like people in London" which receives a huge response from her fans. She does the odd cover too such as The Sisters Love track, The Bigger You Love. Ready for the Good Life a track on the repackaged album sounded like a future hit song.

She has a warm personality and whilst taking in-between songs it felt like she was talking directly to you as her best friend. She stands up on top of the piano whilst singing Trouble with My Baby, whilst Only Love Can Hurt like This closes the gig.

She encores with the Ike and Tina Turner song River Deep Mountain High doing her best Tina Turner impression. Ending with Can't Rely On You we can always rely on seeing a polished show from Paloma.
