Gig Preview: The Bloom Twins To Support Duran Duran In Leeds Saturday 28 November

It is not often you get a duo from overseas supporting one of the iconic bands of the 1980s but The Bloom Twins are doing just that. The duo from Kiev in the Ukraine are an electronic duo whose new album is going to be produced by Nick Rhodes, keyboard player with Duran Duran. I caught up with the duo ahead of the Leeds gig.

You have some new tracks that were produced by Nick Rhodes, how did he get involved?

We first met Nick Rhodes at a shoot for "Untitled" magazine, where he photographed us.
Then he heard us play at Christmas event where he was a guest. Then we were going to have one day in studio with him and now 8 beautiful songs later we are still writing together. That's what happens when you put 3 of us in a room full of legendary keyboards. He probably just couldn't get rid of us, haha.

How do you feel about playing big arenas on this tour as you have not played in such large venues before?

We have butterflies in our stomachs. That feeling when you're falling in love. It's exciting to realise that once you're on stage in front of so many people - you're united with all of them. Nothing can compare to this feeling.

What can we expect from your live show?

Two spooky twins sharing their romantic music

Who are your influences?

Our influences would be iconic people like Bob Dylan, Bob Marley as they were the ones that had a message that spoke through music.
But in terms of music that influenced us - certainly Tom Yorke, Portishead, Massive Attack all played a massive part.

What do you miss about living in Kiev?

We miss our family and friends. From time to time we miss food like vareniki with cherries, or surniki.

What do you like about the UK?

We like that UK has freedom for creatives, for art, for music. It's very art driven and diverse. You can express yourself however you want and not be judged.
