Album Review: Thunder - Wonder Days (Ear Music)

Thunder were one of the best rock bands to come out of the UK in the last 25 years but a few years ago they decided to call it a day but after 6 years since their last album they are back with this new album which has gone inside the Top Ten of the album charts this week.

It is a fine return to form, the first single off the album is the title track - Wonder Days, the song structure owes a little to AC/DC and Whole Lotta Rosie, with its stop start rhythm before it goes into a melodic chorus always associated with Thunder.

The track has an interesting lyric with the band looking back on their youth; this theme is repeated again on the track When the Music Played, which is another fine track.

The Thing That I Want sees the band at the top of their game, with lead vocalist Danny Bowes showing why he is one of the best vocalists of his generation. Things slow down on the Rain which shows how the band can change between rock and a slow ballad. The quality continues on Serpentine before the band rev things up for the album closer I Love the Weekend. Great to have them back.

4 out of 5

The band plays Leeds Arena on Thursday 12th March 2015.
