Album Review: Gedeon Luke And The People - Live Free And Love (Monocentric Music)

If, like me you saw Gedeon Luke and the People on Later with Jools earlier this autumn you might have been very impressed.

The album is a mixture of Soul, Funk and Rock. Opening track Lend Me Your Sunshine could have been released anytime during the last 30 years. The track is a good opening number and an uplifting one too.

Standing on Top of the World is a joyful track that sits between Cutis Mayfield and James Brown whilst Hey (That's What I Say) sounds like a cross between Your Loving Is Lifting Me Higher and Walking on Sunshine.

It is not all faster paced songs as Echoes is a track that could be Jamiroquai mixed with Sly and the Family Stone. He lists all his influences on the track and you hear the soul greats listed. The Healing shows his deeper soulful side and the track would make a good single. There is definitely something going on here.

Judging from the recent TV appearance Gedeon Luke and the People would be a great act to see live. Lets hope they make it back to the UK in early 2015

I give the album 4 out of 5
