Album Review: Dexters - Shimmer Gold (Acid Jazz)

With a name such as Dexters I was expecting something akin to Dexy's Midnight Runners but this new band from East London sound like they have many 60's influences such as The Kinks mixed with Oasis and The Stone Roses. There is also a touch of The Strokes in there too.

Front man Tom Rowlett says that the lyrics to their sings are stories that have happened to the band. You could imagine any of the tracks off this album belting out from a stage at any of the UK festivals this year - their songs are melodic yet powerful.

Repeated plays brings out the best of the album., one of the best tracks is They're Blind which could be a big summer hit, whilst forthcoming single Recover has a very strong influence from The Strokes.

There does not seem to be many bands around making indie rock as good as this and if you need to discover a new band for 2014 there is no better band to start with than Dexters. An impressive debut album.
